A racist and anti-immigrant incident in Croton is now sparking a message of unity.

On Dec. 11, two young siblings went into the Croton ShopRite while their father waited in the car. According to the family, a woman directed a racist and anti-immigrant slur at the children inside the store, leaving them shaken and upset.

The children ran outside to tell their father, who went back in with them. The family says the encounter ended without further escalation, but the impact lingered.

In the days since, community members have rallied around the family, turning the moment into an opportunity for support and healing. Westchester County Legislator Emiljana Ulag presented the children with certificates of merit, recognizing their courage as friends and neighbors gathered to show solidarity.

Family members say the response has reinforced an important lesson about speaking up and standing together.

The Croton Police Department says its investigation into the incident is ongoing. No charges have been filed.
