It will be a few more weeks before we know if expansion plans will move forward at the Hillside Islamic Center in New Hyde Park.
The matter was tabled again at the North Hempstead Town Board meeting. A miscommunication gave residents incorrect information about the date of the meeting. As a result, members of the public did not have enough advance notice to attend.
The Hillside Islamic Center plans to build a third story, as well as 33 additional off-street parking spaces.
Neighbors have made numerous complaints about overcrowding at the facility and illegal street parking.
A public hearing on the matter will be held on Dec. 5 at North Hempstead Town Hall.
