A public hearing was held Friday on a proposed new management model in discussion for the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA).
The state's LIPA commission is looking to replace the current third-party management structure with a public-elected leadership.
Local officials hope the reform will improve the overall power services in the area which covers the entirety of Long Island and the Rockaways.
LIPA is the only power provider in the country governed by a third-party manager.
The committee will hold a second hearing before submitting the final proposal to the state legislature in April.
