Protesters gathered outside a Long Island Association event for business leaders that Lee Zeldin was speaking at on Friday.
The protesters say Zeldin has embraced Elon Musk -- who's aiming to cut regulations protecting our water -- and torpedo efforts to protect climate change.
Zeldin didn't address the protesters directly, but he did speak about clean water. offshore wind and natural gas.
"It is important that we are doing our part for there to be clean air, land and water for all Americans,” said Zeldin.
“One of the biggest changes is that we aren't going to be trying to strangulate the economy, to regulate industries out of existence."
Zeldin also spoke about coastal resiliency issues and the recent brush fires on the East End.
