? A proposal seeks to maintain the character of Pelham Parkway by limiting the size of new buildings.
The City Planning Commission wants to make it illegal for developers to tear down one and two-family homes to construct taller buildings. The plan covers 58 blocks. Many homeowners are backing the proposal, saying it would discourage developers from disrupting their neighborhood.
The proposal still allows commercial and retail space on the first floor of Williamsbridge Road and Pelham Parkway. Up to four floors of residential apartments would be above the businesses.
