The Suffolk County Department of Health said 18 students at Sequoya Middle School were sickened Friday after eating doughnuts laced with laxatives.
The students were victims of a prank by at least five classmates at the school, according to Sachem School District, of which Sequoya is a part.
The pranksters apparently got the idea from watching a program on MTV.
Ambulances and health department doctors were on the scene treating students. None of the students ended up having to be transported to the hospital. Parents were informed of the situation.
"Although the students are feeling well, the school is taking precautionary measures as a procedure," the school district said in a statement. The students who initiated the prank face severe disciplinary actions, the school district said.
