Port Jefferson Station father says home health aide assaulted his disabled son

A Port Jefferson Station father says his severely disabled young son was assaulted by a home health aide nurse inside their home in December, an incident he says was captured on surveillance video.
Christopher Brower says he noticed bruises on his son Maverick’s chest, arms and legs on Dec. 22. Maverick, who has cerebral palsy and complex medical needs, was 5 years old at the time and is nonverbal and non-ambulatory.
Brower says he reviewed video from cameras installed in his son’s bedroom and saw a home health aide allegedly striking, grabbing and roughly handling the child for several minutes while Brower and his wife were out of the house.
The incident allegedly happened on Dec. 20. Suffolk County police say a report was filed on Dec. 22, and detectives with the Special Victims Section are investigating.
Brower says he took his son to a local hospital to document his injuries.
The nurse identified by the family was employed through Christian Nursing Registry, based in Smithtown. Brower says the agency fired the nurse after being notified of the incident. News 12 has reached out to the agency for comment several times and has not received a response.
