Police: Woman scammed out of $26,000, suspect remains on the loose

Detectives say the 24-year-old was contacted by an unknown man, claiming he was a government employee.

Police are warning residents after a woman in Nassau County was scammed out of thousands of dollars.
Detectives say the 24-year-old was contacted by an unknown man, claiming he was a government employee.
According to police, he told her someone was trying to steal her identity and requested all her personal information.
News 12 has been told she complied and then the man instructed her to withdraw all the money she had in the bank.
The pair agreed to meet up in the Walmart parking lot on Green Acres Road South in Valley Stream.
Police tell News 12 the suspect took $26,000 from the victim's car and fled the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
