Police say a woman was killed and her son was arrested following a domestic dispute in Deer Park early Wednesday.

According to police, officers responded to a reported verbal fight between a mother and son on West 23rd Street around 7 a.m.

Officers arriving at the scene found Gabriel Cabral, 33, covered in blood and standing on the side of the house where police say Cabral's mother lived alone.

News 12 is told Cabral came from Brooklyn to visit his mother Tuesday night.

They then found his 54-year-old mother dead in the kitchen with several stab wounds and a kitchen knife under her arm.

"The kitchen area was ransacked and a lot of things were destroyed inside that area," says Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison.

Neighbors were stunned to hear what happened.

"I saw the cops, everybody going in there so I knew it must have something drastic," says Vincent Spina

Police are not releasing the woman's identity at this time.

Cabral was being processed in the 1st Precinct.
