Child found unresponsive in Baldwin pool airlifted to local hospital

Police say a woman was found shot to death inside her home late Monday in Central Islip.

They say officers responded to an apartment on Hawthorne Avenue after a family member found the woman dead inside at 9:40 p.m.

Police identified the woman as Shayna Staton, 39, and say she was shot more than once.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison says Staton suffered several gunshot wounds throughout the body and was found stuck between the bed and the wall.

Staton was pronounced dead at the scene.
