The NYPD police vehicle that Officer Edward Byrne was killed in back in February 1988 was escorted by police motorcade to Long Island.

Last week marked the 37th anniversary of the death of the 22-year-old rookie officer from North Massapequa.

His NYPD police vehicle will be restored back to its original condition in honor of Byrne's service and sacrifice.

"We also highlight the bullet hole on the passenger side door where Byrne was shot. It sends a message for everyone to see and learn from," explained retired NYPD member Jason Caputo.

Once restored, the police vehicle will be on display at the NYPD Police Academy in Queens.
