A 30-year-old Valley Stream man accused of assaulting a police officer Saturday is facing multiple charges.
Detectives say officers responded to a report of a man needing medical attention at a residence on Fir Street.
Upon arrival, officers determined that Yves Fenelon required medical evaluation and treatment. Police say he then began to argue and grew violent.
Authorities say a struggle ensued despite the officers' multiple attempts to deescalate the situation.
One officer fell during the struggle, injuring his left arm and both hands.
Fenelon also started to spit on the officers, according to authorities.
The suspect was ultimately arrested. He and the injured officer were then hospitalized for treatment.
The charges against Fenelon include second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
