A 16-year-old is in critical condition after he was shot in the head Tuesday night near Hofstra University.
According to police, the Hispanic male was shot in the head while standing on Fenimore Avenue around 11:27 p.m. Tuesday. The location is a few blocks away from the school.
Police say they are looking for two male suspects who fled the scene on bicycles and are between the ages of 16 and 18, both Hispanic. They say there was a verbal dispute just before the shooting.
Brady Cortez, who identified himself as the victim's brother, said his brother's condition is "really bad." He said he didn't know why anyone would shoot his brother.
Police have not officially identified the victim, but Cortez identified him as Alixon Moya.
Students and staff at Hofstra University received text alerts throughout the morning due to the proximity of the shooting to the school.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
