Some Elmont residents were forced to evacuate Saturday morning during a six-hour police standoff involving an armed man.
Dozens of police officers and a SWAT team swarmed Bauer Court after reports of gunshots and hostages taken inside a house.
Eyewitnesses say at one point they saw two women escaping from the house. The armed suspect, however, remained barricaded. The standoff ended when the SWAT team went in and took the suspect out on a stretcher. No one was injured.
Police say the man, a former police sergeant with the NYPD, had a bad reaction to a medication which made him delusional. No charged will be filed against him.
