Police say a school bus driver has been arrested following a crash in North Bellport.
According to police, officers responded to a crash involving a school bus and a sedan on Bellport Avenue and Head of the Neck Road around 7:50 a.m.
There was a driver, an aide, and five children, ages 10 to 14, on the bus. News 12 Long Island has learned thy were heading to Victory Christian Academy.
The driver of the bus, the driver of the sedan and the five children were transported to hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. The aide was not injured.
The bus driver refused to allow medical personnel to evaluate the children aboard the bus and was then involved in an altercation with police at the scene.
The bus driver, 64-year-old Steven Edwards, was arrested and charged with five counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of obstruction of governmental administration, harassment and resisting arrest.
Towne Bus, which is owned by Transport, sent a statement to News 12 saying "Student safety is our top priority, and we are fully cooperating with local officials while this incident is investigated."
