Police: Retired NYPD sergeant accused of DWI, plowing into police car in Long Beach

Long Beach police say Robert Garrity, 52, was driving drunk and the wrong way on West Park Avenue.

A retired NYPD sergeant was allegedly driving drunk when he plowed into a police cruiser in Long Beach.
Long Beach police say Robert Garrity, 52, was driving drunk and the wrong way on West Park Avenue.
The incident happened just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say Garrity lost control of his SUV, took down two trees, and then struck a Long Beach police vehicle while the officer was waiting at the traffic light.
The officer was taken to the hospital and is now recovering at home.
Garrity is charged with assault, reckless endangerment, and DWI.
