A woman was critically injured in a six-vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway Wednesday in Islandia, police say.
Suffolk County police say traffic was slowing down on the westbound LIE near Exit 58 around 10:50 a.m. when a "Gunite Masters" sand truck did not stop.
That caused a chain reaction crash, which sent five people to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Amanda McDermott, 35, of Mastic Beach, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.
The crash temporarily shut down traffic at Exit 59. All westbound lanes are now back open to traffic.
News 12 reached out to Gunite Masters but has not heard back.
