Police say a man stole money from poor boxes at a church in Massapequa.
They say Mark Spruill used a rock to smash open the poor boxes at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Carmans Road Thursday. He entered the church through an unlocked door.
The Amityville man is accused of taking cash out of the boxes and running off.
Spruill is charged with burglary, petit larceny, criminal mischeif and possession of burglar tools.
Police say they believe Spruill burglarized the church at least four times dating back to December 2009.
Monsignor Jim Lisante says he just prays he gets help. "He didn't need to, all he had to do was ask for help and we would have given it to him, so it's sad anyone was lead to do that," Lisante said.
Spruill is being held on $25,000 bond and is due back on court on Dec. 16.
