Suffolk County police say a man attacked a female taxi driver, causing her to crash in Mount Sinai, before sexually assaulting her in the cab.
Police say Francis Berrios, a convicted sex offender, hailed a cab at Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
During the trip, the homeless man allegedly sexually assaulted the driver, who then crashed into a fence on Mount Sinai-Coram Road.
Police say two passing motorists saw the cab crash and called 911. Berrios was arrested a short time later.
He faces charges including criminal sex act, attempted rape, strangulation and assault.
The name of the company that operates the cab is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
