A Brooklyn resident accused of scamming a 90-year-old woman out of $10,000 is facing grand larceny charges.
Authorities say Zugen Jiang, 28, called the victim on Feb. 6 and claimed to be a member of the Federal Trade Commission.
He stated that her identity and social security number were compromised. He then said she needed to withdraw and hand-deliver cash to him.
The woman complied but contacted police the next day after receiving another phone call requesting additional funds.
Authorities opened an investigation, and Jiang was ultimately arrested at his residence without incident. Police say he was arraigned in Hempstead on Sunday.
In a release from the Nassau County Police Department, authorities urge the community to remain alert and remind vulnerable individuals about potential scams.
