Police: Man arrested, another sought in violent New Cassel car robbery

According to detectives, 42-year-old Carlos Matute, along with 20-year-old Luis Mario Matute, cut off a car at the intersection of Garland Lane and Maplewood Drive at 10:15 p.m. Then the two men pointed a gun at the 29-year-old male driver and forced him to get out of his car.

Police say they arrested a man and are searching for another after a violent Saturday night car robbery in New Cassel.
According to detectives, 42-year-old Carlos Matute, along with 20-year-old Luis Mario Matute, cut off a car at the intersection of Garland Lane and Maplewood Drive at 10:15 p.m. Then the two men pointed a gun at the 29-year-old male driver and forced him to get out of his car.
That's when authorities say the two suspects began striking and kicking the driver before stealing his car and fleeing.
Carlos Matute was arrested a short time later. Police are still looking for Luis Mario Matute.
The victim was taken to a hospital where he was treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.
Carlos Matute is facing robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny, menacing and assault charges.
