Police: Man arrested after check scam in Massapequa

Detectives tell News 12 a Massapequa law firm got a cashier’s check for more than $84,000 in the mail to be placed in an escrow account.

A New Jersey man will face a judge after a check scam in Nassau County.
Detectives tell News 12 a Massapequa law firm got a cashier’s check for more than $84,000 in the mail to be placed in an escrow account.
Once the check was cleared, the victim was told to transfer over $77,000 to a bank account.
Days later, the bank called the victim and said the original $84,000 check was fake and the law firm suffered the loss.
After investigating, officers issued an arrest warrant for 44-year-old Osokam Ekufia.
Ekufia turned himself in Wednesday and will be arraigned today.
