A young girl reported being approached by a man in Levittown over the weekend, police say.
The girl was walking by the Nassau Mall shopping center on Hempstead Turnpike when she was allegedly approached by a young man on foot. The man "made some unknown comments to her," according to police.
The man followed the girl as she walked away, police say. The girl also reported seeing him again later the same day driving a black pickup truck. She fled by running away.
The suspect is described as a white male with a thin build who stood about 5 feet 6 inches tall. He wore a black, hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The Island Trees School District sent a letter home to parents warning them of the report and urging them to speak to their children about the dangers posed by strangers.
