Suffolk County police say a 13-year-old boy stabbed by a 12-year-old classmate is now in stable condition.
Police say they responded to the school around 12:30 p.m. for a student who was stabbed in the leg.
The victim had to be airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital, and his alleged attacker was arrested.
The middle school went into lockdown for about two hours as a result of the stabbing.
The 12-year-old suspect is now being charged with juvenile delinquency.
Police told News 12 there would be an increased police presence at Lindenhurst Middle School today in response to the stabbing.
Many say this all stems from bullying, and the parents and students News 12 spoke to say it's a chronic problem in this school.
"I 1,000% saw this coming. They are trying to implement some programs, but clearly, it's not working. Clearly what you are bringing in is not working and you need to do better for our kids," says Jeannie Sailer, parent.
As News 12 has reported, the Lindenhurst School District may be under-reporting cases of bullying or cyberbullying to the state.
Police tell News 12 there will be an increased police presence at Lindenhurst Middle School today.

If your child needs support, we have been in contact with the Town of Babylon Youth Bureau, and they have counseling available. Please call 631-422-7653 to make an appointment for today."
