Nassau County police are conducting an investigation following a police-involved shooting in a residential neighborhood in Carle Place, sources say.
The police officers involved are OK, but a News 12 source says one person has died.
Earlier during the investigation, Rushmore Avenue was taped off between Asbury Avenue and Eighth Street - but the road has since reopened.
The scene is near three schools in the Carle Place district, including Cherry Lane Primary School, Rushmore Avenue Intermediate School and Carle Place High School.
Video from the scene taken around midnight shows Nassau County police crime scene and homicide detectives searching the area. This morning, detectives were searching a property at 339 Rushmore Ave. where the shooting apparently happened.
At one point, a person is loaded and strapped into an ambulance.
Sources said special investigators with the New York Attorney General's Office will be on the scene. According to state law, the NYAG's Office of Special Investigation investigates deaths caused by police officers or peace officers, including corrections officers.
Nassau County police have not yet said what led up to the shooting or who was involved, though the investigation is ongoing.
