A Levittown man was arrested after a dangerous cache of illegal weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, including armor-piercing rounds, were allegedly found inside his home.
Christopher Price, 74, says the cache of weapons in his Levittown home because he is an avid hunter. He says he allowed police to search his home Sunday on The Plains Road. Police, however, say they found more than guns needed for hunting.
Police say it all started Sunday afternoon when Price allegedly pulled a shotgun on a man and a woman sitting in their car. Police say the woman has met with Price before for drug dealings.
"He pointed it at both of them, he threatened that he was going to shoot them, then he got back in his car and drove away," says Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
That couple called 911, and police stopped and arrested Price. Ryder says Price also had drugs on him.
"These two vials of ketamine are enough to kill an elephant, a little touch of that on one of our officers made him sick. He came in contact in the room, that shows you how powerful this drug is, it's starting to see a resurgence on the streets here in Nassau County," says Ryder.
When asked about the ketamine, Price says the woman involved "was on heroin, she's on heroin now," and that he was giving her ketamine "so she can stop heroin."
Police say Price at one point had a pistol permit, but it was revoked in 2005. He recently tried to apply for a permit again, but police say he was denied.
Price was arraigned in Mineola Monday and is being held on $250,000 bail.
Ryder showed the recovered weapons, including an AR-15, armor-piercing ammunition, a loaded Uzi 9 mm assault rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammo, seven large capacity magazines capable of accepting more than 10 rounds of ammo, a Mossberg .817 caliber rifle and a .22 caliber rifle.
"The ammunition is armored-piercing ammunition ... that ammunition goes right through a bulletproof vest," says Ryder.
