Police say one man was fatally shot and another man was stabbed when a brawl erupted at a party in Medford early Saturday morning.
It happened around 1:30 a.m. at the corner of Cedar and West lanes. Police say they received multiple 911 calls about a large group of people fighting in the street.
That's when gunfire rang out. Police say 36-year-old Darnell Smith, of East Patchogue, was shot.
Smith was taken by private vehicle to the Coram Fire Department on Middle Country Road, and then was taken by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Back at the scene of the Medford brawl, police found a second person who had been stabbed. That person was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive, News 12 is told.
It's unclear what prompted the violence.
Police say no arrests have been made at this time.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the case to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392, or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-220-TIPS.
