A man died on a Hempstead Village street early Friday morning after being shot, police say.
When officers arrived on Elizabeth Avenue around 12:30 a.m., they say they found 37-year-old Ricky Ward with a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deadly shooting happened only two days after residents met with village officials about crime in the community.

Mayor Wayne Hall says residents were informed of several crime-fighting measures, including linking cameras to the village's ShotSpotter system, which alerts police to the location of gunfire. He says police are reviewing video from the camera on the street where the man was found.
