A man and woman are dead following a murder-suicide that happened Wednesday in Jamesport, police say.

Riverhead Town police responded to 56 Lagoon Court around 8:30 p.m. after a welfare call.

When officers arrived, they discovered two people dead from gunshot wounds.

An investigation determined that 62-year-old Edward Crohan killed his 63-year-old wife, Stephanie Crohan, and then shot himself to death.

Suffolk County police confirm that Edward Crohan was a retired Southampton police officer and his wife was a retired Suffolk County police officer.
