Human remains found in the woods along a popular hiking and biking trail in East Setauket are being inspected by the Suffolk medical examiner.
Police say the discovery was made along the Greenway Trail, a 3-mile path that was opened to the public in 2009. They say the remains were found in a wooded area close to Gnarled Hollow Road.
Authorities would only say that the remains were human.
The medical examiner will attempt to determine the identity of the remains and the cause of death.
