A Holbrook man pulled unresponsive from Gilgo Beach in Babylon Sunday was pronounced dead, according to police.
Officers say they arrived after a Good Samaritan saw the surfer in the water around 2:30 p.m. and took him out.
They say the man, identified as 54-year-old Jack Shapiro, died at a hospital.
The cause of death will be determined by the Suffolk Medical Examiner's Office.
