Police say they have arrested the hit-and-run driver who ran down an officer at the scene of a hookah lounge slashing in Farmingdale.
Surveillance video shows a white van barreling toward a group of Nassau County police officers, striking one of them before taking off. The incident happened early last Saturday morning. Police arrested 19-year-old Eric Dori on Thursday.
According to police, the scene started as a fight at a nearby hookah lounge. When officers arrived, they say they found a man who had been slashed in the neck. And when they tried to help him, police say that victim ran away into a parking lot across the street.
In addition to allegedly striking the police officer, investigators say Dori also ran over the stabbing victim. A Nissan and a woman who was standing next to it were also hit. Police say they believe Dori may have been involved in the original fight at the bar and was trying to escape.
"Mr. Dori's a coward," said Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
Police say two people injured in the brawl were later found at a nearby hospital. The officer suffered injuries not considered life-threatening and has returned to work.
Police say the victim who was run over and stabbed remains hospitalized in serious condition. They say the others did not have life-threatening injuries.
