Police: Driver killed, Suffolk officer injured in Bay Shore crash

A driver was killed and a Suffolk police officer was seriously injured when a car veered into oncoming traffic early Sunday morning in Bay Shore.

A driver was killed and a Suffolk police officer was seriously injured when a car veered into oncoming traffic early Sunday morning in Bay Shore.
It happened shortly after 6 a.m. on near 1460 Fifth Ave.
Suffolk police say a driver in a Honda Civic was heading south when his vehicle veered into the northbound lanes and crashed into an oncoming police vehicle.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have identified him as 28-year-old Ever Menjivar, of Brentwood.
The police officer, who is with the Third Precinct, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Investigators are conducting safety checks on both of the vehicles that were involved. Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.
