Police say that a person died and six others were taken to the hospital after a multicar crash in Hempstead on Christmas.
They say officers were called to the crash, which involved four cars, at Henry and Greenwich streets at around 6 p.m.
Officers say a Volkswagen was heading west on Henry Street around 6 p.m. when it slammed into an Acura, which had a four-year-old girl in it.
Two 14-year-olds and a 16-year-old were also involved in the crash.
The chain-reaction crash involved a total of four vehicles and nine people.
The driver of that second vehicle hit a car, a Ford Explorer that had been waiting to make a right turn on to Henry Street.
The driver of the first vehicle also hit another car, a BMW, on Henry Street.
The 61-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene.
All of the other victims are expected to be OK.
The owner of Mi Tierra Deli says accidents are common in the area and she would like to see a red light camera installed at the intersection.
