Police say one person has died following a serious crash in Shirley.

According to sources on the scene, the car was traveling at a high rate of speed on the William Floyd Parkway, lost control and crashed into a tree. The male driver was killed in the crash.

There are also unconfirmed reports that police were trying to stop the car that was speeding.

The William Floyd Parkway near Mastic Boulevard East has reopened after the crash.
