Police: Commack man arrested in Craigslist vehicle scam
A Commack man is accused of using Craigslist to steal tens of thousands of dollars in a car scam.
Emmanuel Amaral allegedly advertised cars for sale on the website.
Police say numerous people paid Amaral anywhere from $3,000 to $24,000 for vehicles that were never delivered.
"My husband was looking for a car. [Amaral] said that he has a car available, he works as a dealer and can get him a car really cheap. He sent him a picture of a car, all the information about the car, and he said I want a certified check," said one alleged victim.
Detectives say Amaral pocketed $73,000 from the scam.
The judge set Amaral's bail at $80,000 or $160,000 bond. He is due back in court on Oct. 3.
News 12 is told that Amaral also goes by "Manny Balboa" and "Manny Amaral." Police are asking anyone who thinks they may have been a victim to call them at 631-853-7114.
