Police say a bus driver accused of sexually abusing a child in Bay Shore was arraigned Thursday.
Miguel Enrique Diaz is a Suffolk Transportation bus driver for Bay Shore Middle School and Brook Elementary School, according to police.
Police say Diaz sexually abused a girl, who is now 13 years old, multiple times between May 2022 and October 2023.
A community therapist reported the alleged abuse to detectives in the Special Victims Section earlier this month.
Diaz, 47, of Bay Shore, was arrested at his home on Wednesday following an investigation by Special Victims Section detectives.
During Diaz's arraignment, his family told News 12 that they do not belive the allegations.
Diaz is charged with one count of course of sexual conduct against a child and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He has also been suspended without pay.
Executive Vice president of Suffolk Transportation Services Tom McAteer says Diaz had a clean criminal record when he was hired and that he did not start working in the Bay Shore Schools until September 2023.
Bail was set at $1 million.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on this case or who believes their child may be a victim of Diaz to contact the Special Victims Section at 631-852-6531.
