Police say a Bay Shore man was arrested for boating while intoxicated after his boat capsized in the Great South Bay.
They say the pump on 48-year-old Javier Torres' 19-foot boat malfunctioned Sunday afternoon.
The boat started taking on water and eventually capsized. Torres and six passengers were thrown into the water just south of Bay Shore Marina.
Marine Bureau officers and Jeff Sperling of Bay Shore, along with his 15-year-old daughter Emily and 14-year-old daughter Jessica, helped rescue the stranded boaters.
One passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Torres was arrested and charged with BWI. He'll face a judge later Monday morning in Central Islip.
