Police say an 81-year old woman was seriously injured after getting hit by a van in Hempstead Saturday night.

They say she was walking northbound on Bennet Avenue while crossing at Fulton Avenue when she was hit by a Ford cargo van.

Officials say the driver stayed on the scene and waited for first responders to arrive.

The 81-year-old remains in critical condition.
