Seven people are facing various drug charges Monday following a two-month police operation at the Rosa Parks Senior Complex in Roosevelt.
Police executed a no-knock search warrant Friday at the complex.
"We recovered crack-cocaine glassine pipes, some pills that were in there, and a lot of drug packaging including large scales, capsules and baggies," says Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
The seven people arrested are facing various drug possession and drug dealing charges. Police say all of those arrested had extensive criminal records.
Detectives says drugs were being sold out of an apartment to local dealers who would resell it in a nearby park and to individuals.
Residents say there was a constant flow of people in and out of the apartment.
"All the time, day and night you'd hear people banging trying to get in," says resident Allen Zuckerman.
Police say while they were in the apartment customers knocked on the door looking to score drugs.
"What was surprising to me was they actually walked by uniformed police officers in the parking lot right in through the door and went into the apartment to get more drugs," says Ryder. "This went on three times until we left the door open so they could see police were inside."
Complaints by residents to the Town of Hempstead is what prompted Nassau police to begin their investigation. Residents say they are relieved that the drug ring was broken up.
