Police: 5 men rescued from capsized boat on LI Sound near Fort Salonga
Suffolk police's Marine Bureau rescued five people from Long Island Sound near Fort Salonga after the group's boat capsized Tuesday afternoon.
Officers responded to a 911 call for the boat off the coast of Crab Meadow Beach just before 5 p.m. When they arrived, police say they found the five men standing on the underside of the 21-foot boat.
Three life vest-wearing passengers swam to the bureau's boat, while the other two were rescued via flotation devices that were thrown to them.
The boat was towed to a ramp in Northport, police say.
The five men, who were between ages 24 and 54 and from Long Island, were evaluated but were not injured.
