Four robberies have been reported in Freeport over the last 10 days, police say.
The latest robbery took place Monday after authorities say a man walked out of Walgreens with 15 tubes of toothpaste without paying. When an employee confronted him, the robber threatened him with a screwdriver and fled the scene.
Police say another robbery occurred early on Christmas Eve when a 77-year-old man was approached by two men in his driveway. Detectives say the duo stole the victim's wallets and cash.
The robberies occurred after Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy announced earlier this month his bid for re-election and the largest two-year reduction in crime in over a decade.
Nassau police say they are investigating the robberies, which do not seem to be connected. They are asking anyone with information about the incidents to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
