Police say a 28-year-old man is accused of being found with drugs and a gun in Haverstraw.

Officers say they got a call about a man with a gun on Friday and found Michael Diaz with the loaded firearm along with narcotics.

Diaz was charged with several weapons charges and possessing drugs with intent to sell.

"The swift and professional actions of our officers prevented what could have been a potentially violent encounter. Thanks to their training, tactics and unwavering commitment to public safety, a loaded firearm, and dangerous narcotics were safely removed from our community," says Haverstraw Police Chief John Gould Jr.

Diaz was arraigned and is being held at Rockland County Correctional Facility on $40,000 cash bail.
