Authorities say 70 bags of heroin were found on a man and woman who fled from police in Massapequa last night.
Shamiek Porter, 24, of Farmingdale, and Lindsey Wild, 24, of Lindenhurst, were both arrested after the incident.
Police say Porter and Wild came to Beach Street and Carmen Boulevard in Massapequa last night to deal heroin. Detectives from the recently formed Nassau-Suffolk Heroin Task Force were already on the case.
"Our investigators developed information that drugs were being sold at that location, and at that point, did surveillance on that location and perceived that this individual was driving up to sell narcotics at that location," says Nassau Police Chief Kevin Smith.
Police say the two took off in the car when they realized officers were on to them.
The car slammed into a mailbox, two parked cars and then came to rest after knocking over a basketball hoop.
Both Wild and Porter have prior drug arrests. They were held on several hundred thousand dollars bail today.
