Police: 15-year-old fatally shot in Calverton during dispute among group of teens

According to police, Preston Gamble was involved in an altercation between two groups of teens and young adults on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say a 15-year-old boy was fatally shot in Calverton on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, Preston Gamble was involved in an altercation between two groups of teens and young adults on Hill Circle. That is when police say a male shot him at 3:55 p.m.
The Riverhead School District has confirmed Gamble was a student at Riverhead High School.
In a letter to parents sent Wednesday, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Augustine E. Tornatore said “It is with the deepest sorrow that we inform you this evening that a Riverhead High School student was a victim of an act of violence that occurred in our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and friends at this time. Counselors throughout the district will be available beginning tomorrow for all students, faculty and staff as needed. We will continue to update the community on support measures available throughout the district.”
