A 12-year-old boy was fatally struck by a pickup truck while running across a road Monday in Flower Hill.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Middle Neck Road near Northern Boulevard, according to police.

Authorities say the child was not using a crosswalk at the time of the collision.

The 18-year-old driver who hit him remained on the scene.

The boy, who has yet to be identified, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
