Police say a 27-year-old Hempstead man is dead following a shooting at a Roosevelt Fourth of July block party.
Investigators say two groups got into an argument at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the party on Hudson Avenue when shots rang out.
Three people were shot. News 12 is told the man died at the scene, while two others, a 31-year-old woman and 21-year-old man, were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The woman is listed in critical condition, police say.
Police identified the victim as Tavon Greenhill, of Hempstead.
While some neighbors say there were shocked by the violence, another man says this is not the first shooting that's happened in the area.
"Guy got shot over the there, someone from Brooklyn came and shot someone right here," says Danny Peters, who say that happened last year.
Peters, who has lived on the block for 35 years, says he's not a fan of block parties in the neighborhood.
"It's when they have parties all types of people come in and create issues," he says.
Right now, police are declining to talk on camera about the shooting.
