Police say one person was killed in a crash Monday on the Long Island Expressway near Holtsville.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on the westbound lane between exits 61 and 62, police say.
A 2018 Ford van was traveling westbound in the right lane of the LIE when it merged into the center lane and struck the rear of a 2005 Chrysler 300. The Ford then swerved into the right lane, left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.
The 39-year-old driver of the Ford, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chrysler, 58-year-old Michelle Fiori, of Shirley, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
The westbound LIE near Exit 62 was closed earlier but has since reopened.
