Police: 1 dead, another injured in North Bellport shooting

One person is dead and another seriously injured after a Saturday evening shooting in North Bellport.
Police say it occurred at 7:45 p.m. following a confrontation between two groups of people by Robert Rowley Park on Patchogue Avenue.
Neighbors told a News 12 crew on the scene that there was a party and then they heard gunshots. A woman said that is when everyone started running and then she saw a body on the ground.
Officials say 43-year-old Eric Cooper, of Bellport, was hospitalized and pronounced dead.
The second victim was hospitalized, treated and then released.
No suspects have been arrested and authorities say an investigation is ongoing.
