Police: 1 dead after vehicle hits pole in Great River

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and another person who was inside the vehicle has serious injuries. Only one vehicle was involved.

A person has died after a vehicle crashed into a pole in Great River early Friday morning.
Suffolk police say it happened just before 1 a.m. on Great River Road, near Montauk Highway. The crash, which involved a 1998 Jeep, ejected both people from the vehicle.
A female passenger, NeriBeth Medina-Mas, 25, of Brentwood, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Ulises Noriega, 37, from Bay Shore, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he is in critical but stable condition.
The area around the crash was closed all morning while Verizon crews replaced the pole.
